Selling Yourself

I’m so excited to share this workshop with you guys. I’ve created the series based on three pillars that you need to build a successful and thriving business. The first workshop is all about leadership. If you didn't know, leadership is my jam. I've got two postgraduate degrees in leadership, and it’s something I continually invest in. So I can’t wait to share with you what I’ve learned about leadership and how I used it to grow a six-figure coaching business. I hope you join, this session is going to be AMAZING. 

The second video session is going to be on Tuesday, July 14th at 4:30 PM EST. We’re going to talk about my favorite topic: money money money. If you are not abundant in nature, approach your business with the right pricing structure, or if you are not dictating your own money story, then guess what? It’s going to be really hard to have a successful, scalable, sustainable business. We’re going to dive deep into how to approach money, pricing, sales funnels, and all that good stuff to make sure you’re set up for success! 

The last coaching session is going to be on Friday, July 17th at 12:00 PM EST. We’ll be diving into what I like to call intuitive business strategy. Now, let’s be real. I’m not going to tell you, “Here’s the strategy, do these things and you’ll achieve your goals.” What works for me might not work for you, and what works for you might not work for me. We’re different people, offering different things. That’s why I like to teach intuitive strategy, meaning you take ownership of your strategy. You know what’s best for your business, so own it! 

Tribe, the webinars are going to be me teaching and helping you live. You may not know this, but I was a teacher for eight years. Teaching is my favorite thing on this planet next to leadership, money, my dog, and my husband, and all of my clients...I guess I have a lot of favorite things on this planet, haha! Now, on to the subject of today’s episode. We’re also going to talk about selling yourself. Do you feel slimy, sales-y, or just plain uncomfortable when you’re trying to promote yourself or sell your service? I used to feel that way too, and I know how awful that is. But today, we’re going to have a real chat about how to detach yourself from those negative emotions and focus on the IMPACT you want to have as the driving force behind your business. Let’s dive in!

Reject the Narrative of Feeling “Gross”

I hear from you guys all the time, “Jenn, I don't want to be sales-y.” For so many of us, it’s hard to toot our own horns  even when we know our stuff and we work so damn hard to make our businesses successful.

If you feel like you’re being “sales-y”, I want you to ask yourself why you feel that way. The reality is, you’re not a slimy, sales-y, disgusting person. If you were, I don’t think you’d be listening to this. I don’t attract those types of people into my life! So, first off, recognize that you aren’t slimy and you’re not gross. 

Since you’re not a gross person, why do you feel that you are? I want you to really think about what you do in your business. Some of you are nutrition coaches, or life coaches, or trainers, or therapists. Whatever you do, you have a product or a service that changes people's lives. You have IMPACT. Can you imagine people’s lives you change?  What if your clients woke up one day and didn’t have you? 

For me, as a past nutrition coach, I set out on a mission to do everything I could to help as many women as possible wake up and never binge again, never feel tied to the scale, and never have their self-worth determined by their weight. I woke up every single day in my nutrition coaching programs saying to myself that I was going to help as many people as I possibly could live in a confident body and live in their power. 

Could you imagine if I didn't do that work, how many women would be struggling with not living in their power with their bodies, with bingeing and restricting?

That’s why I strongly believe that the more people that you impact in this world, the more income that you make. That life you dream of is possible. There is nothing wrong with selling yourself because what you’re selling improves people’s lives!

When you think about your work this way, it completely shifts your perspective on “selling yourself.” Your passion is meant to change people’s lives. If you didn’t get out and sell yourself with ease, confidence, and excitement, how many people are you letting suffer?

When you feel called to have an impact, you have an obligation to listen to that call. You were not given the message or the gift for no reason. You were given that drive because you are meant to change people's lives.

The next time that you feel like you're being sales-y, this is the new narrative that I want you to think of. Say to yourself, “I have an obligation to sell myself.” You cannot worry about if you look sales-y, because if you didn't sell yourself, nobody would know what you do. And they wouldn’t be impacted as a result. 

Humans Have Short Attention Spans: Sell Yourself All the Time

Did you know the human attention span is about eight seconds long? Yeah, that’s right: it’s less than a goldfish. We need to see things multiple times in order to be convinced to buy or even to consider something that might be right for us. We live in a world where devices, brands, and people are fighting for our attention, 24/7. 

What does that mean for you and your coaching? It means you’re going to be selling yourself eight times before someone gets the message. Get comfortable with selling your business because it’s going to take a second for someone to realize you could change their life. You have to get out there! Whenever you're in launch mode, you have to sell yourself unapologetically all the time

That’s it guys: that’s the whole secret. You need to be selling yourself regularly. Shift your mindset from “yuck” to “yes.” It’s not sales-y or gross when your business positively impacts someone’s life. People need to hear what you have to say. And, not only that, they need to hear it eight times.
